Where
has the summer gone? With a great number of tasks to accomplish, all
departments at
Morris-Turnberry
have been quite busy this year.
The
Roads Department has completed paving on Jamestown Road, the Hamlet of Belgrave,
as well as a 3rd
coat of tar and chip on Brandon and Glennanon Roads. Re-construction on the
last section of Salem road is well
underway.
Steve
Fortier at the Building Department has been able to report a year over year
increase
in the value of
construction of over 1.5 million dollars. We are pleased to see a number of
larger commercial developments
materialize.
Morris-Turnberry
administration has been busy with updating the municipal software that
is used
in our office,
as well as inputting the required data. Replacement of office equipment,
that
was long overdue, has also been
completed.
Council
has steadily been dealing with the issues that arise on an ongoing basis. The
environmental assessment
process for the Bluevale Drainage is being finalized by BM Ross
& Associates.
Council has filed the report, waiting for
Federal or Provincial funding to make
it affordable. Planning issues are taking
up an increasing amount of time at
Council. This at
least lets our local representation make comments on what is
developing in Morris-Turnberry.
Economic Development in Morris-Turnberry has been greatly enhanced. On April 15th
it was
announced that Green’s
Meat Market was successful in receiving a ‘Red’ grant (Rural
Economic
Development) from OMAFRA to expand and
modernize their abattoir.
More recently on August 18th , Pioneer
Hi-Bred Wingham Seed Plant also received a ‘Red’
Grant
to help relocate more of their business to this location. Morris-Turnberry
was quite proud to
Partner with these
businesses in the application process and could not be happier with
the
results. Both of these developments will add
jobs and spur economic activity in our
community.
In
closing, I would like to welcome James Marshall to Morris-Turnberry in his new
position
of Community Fire
Safety Officer. James has vast knowledge and experience in emergency
fire
services and will be a great asset to us.
Welcome James!
